Small spaces can be deceptively hard to design for, but we love a good challenge. SML was tasked with creating kitchen seating for a small, yet cozy and very stylish home. This meant space, maneuverability, and style would be key components of this project.
Our amazing client gave us a lot of creative freedom to execute the design as we saw fit. With very few solid "must-have" requirements, we decided to explore some bent-plywood + upholstery designs that we have been dreaming of for some time.
The matching bench and settee were designed to be light, open, and minimalist in form, but still maintain the creative energy found throughout our client's home. Bent poplar plywood with CNC legs were used to create the frame. Cotton upholstery fabric with a large, block print pattern was selected to add bold color and comfort.
